fort. A cook named Kwok On and a servant were also engaged. The

informer changed his surname into Ko, and the rebel fung changed

his into Lau, and his name into Luk. The informer every day treated him well, bought good fish and good meat for him to eat and also engaged two prostitutes who usually drank wine with them. The informer secretly bought some stupifying drugs mixed it with some medicinal wine, boiled it together with some meat and put the mixture in a glass bottle to await a favourable opportuni -ty for its use. On the 26th. day at about 12 noon the two pros-

titutes were called to drink wine with them, and after they had

drunk and were in good spirits, the informer took this opportuni-

ty and secretly placed some of the stupifying drug into some

soup and invited Hung to drink, and also gave him some of the

drugged wine. The rebel Hung then became insensible, the two

prostitutes were sent away and at about 6 o'clock the rebel Hung

was put into a sack and then placed into an old salt fish basket

on the top of which was placed an old cotton quilt so as to give

it the appearance of containing merchandise. Then after consulte-

tion, it was agreed to make out that it was a case of plague, and

a sum of 280 dollars were paid to some coolies to carry him down to a boat, Chu Cheung having first gone quietly down into the street to see that the way was clear. A fish boat was engaged, which was anchored off the Praya, and when the rebel Hung had

been put on board this boat she immediately started off. Another

boat was also secretly engaged by Fong, Lau, Bo, and Lam, which was anchored at a quiet spot. At about dark the rebel Hung was transferred to the second boat. Unexpectedly the rebel Hung re- covering from the effects of the drugs cried out with a loud

voice
